As our departure from Sun Valley approached we had a decision to make. Should we go back through Park City, Utah, a comfortable route for us and one we’ve done several times, or head over through Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We had met a family back up in Whitefish Montana who had a boy near Kalden’s age and they hit it off. That and the fact we hadn’t been to Jackson in over 15 years helped seal the deal, we were heading to Jackson Hole. Our first day out of Sun Valley we drove for about 4 hours to Rexburg, ID. I had looked this little
Our next stop on the way back south to Colorado was Sun Valley, ID. This is our 4th visit here so we’ve got the place pretty dialed in now as far as dispersed camping, access to necessities (water, trash, etc) and trails. We camp just NW of Sun Valley. Heading out on Sun Valley Rd it soon changes to FSR51. There is dispersed camping all along there and it’s only 10 minutes from town. This location also gives you great access to the upper part of Corral Ck trail which you can then link to the White Cloud Trail. Also while in the area be
Crossing back over from Canada to the USA couldn’t have been any easier. We made a brief stop before the border to get rid of some fruit and eggs that were not allowed then got in line to drive over. We pulled up to the guard and after a few quick questions then some talk about bikes and trails we were off! Our first stop was the Whitefish Bike Retreat just North of Whitefish, MT. This place opened in 2013 by Cricket Buttler. She had dreamt of a place where cyclists could come together and enjoy the best Montana has to offer and have access to
We’ve wrapped up our visit to our neighbors in the north and all I can say is WOW, you all know how to do mountain biking. Not that we didn’t already know that but seeing it in person for almost 3 weeks was incredible. When we last left off we were wrapping up a week in Whistler/Squamish. From there we headed east to Rossland, BC. Rossland has a long history of mountain biking and is acclaimed as one of North America’s top mountain biking destinations. In fact, it has acquired the reputation as ‘The mountain biking capital of Canada’, with its enormous variety of specialty
When it comes to road trips Campy comes everywhere with us. He is a playmate, protector and our cheer squad when we get outside and play. When we got Campy he was already a year old. He was left over from a litter of 14 Golden Retriever pups! He settled into life with us pretty quickly. Getting a year old pup instead of 8 weeks old we managed to skip “most” of the destructive stage. He did get us once! We got him out for his first “trail dog” test in Crested Butte and he did great. Since then he’s welcomed his new little brother
Leaving our friends house in Burlington, WA we headed straight North for the Canadian boarder, we had printed out all the paperwork for us, the dog and the vehicle/camper and were prepared to spend a bit of time there. To our complete surprise we were through in 5 minutes, maybe less! Handed the man our passports and he asked 3 or 4 questions like where are we heading? How long? and purpose of visit? He scanned the passports, handed them back to us and we were off. After our last experience driving a vehicle into Mexico I was shocked! From the boarder we headed straight
Most adventures start with a “great idea.” Ours did as well. Let’s take the truck and camper over to the San Juan Islands for a few days and check things out. Well, a quick check of the pricing to get something of that size over on the ferry squashed that idea quickly. Next it was, let’s just take the Land Rover and borrow our friend’s tent for a weekend. This was much more affordable of course but then the winning idea hit us. Let’s bike pack it! With the mode of transportation set for the weekend we now needed to decide which Island to visit.
