Thule Chariot Cross Bike

Thule Chariot Cross

We purchased the Thule Chariot Cross and it was the best baby purchase we’ve ever made. This was our second Chariot. Years ago we bought a slightly used Chariot Cougar 1 when our first son was born. We used it so much from day one that I think he spent more time in there than his crib. We strolled, biked and skied with it for almost 4 years. It was so used that we need a new one for this kiddo and decided on the Thule Chariot Cross.

Thule Chariot Models

We had three Thule models to choose from:

  • Thule Cheetah– Entry level trailer. The Cheetah is a great value and does everything the Cougar and CX does but we ruled it out because it does not have suspension. Since 90% of our roads are bumpy dirt the suspension on the Lite and Cross models are worth the extra money.
  • Thule Chariot Lite– This is the staple in the Chariot line up. It has all the functionality you need plus suspension, padded seats, weather cover, side vents, and better fabric.
  • Thule Cross– The Porsche of the lineup. It has all the features of the Chariot Lite plus, drum brakes, and deluxe upgrades all around. The cockpit of the Cross is all luxury for your little one. I also like that it has removable side windows for hot weather.

Chariot Cross vs. Lite

We choose the Cross over the Chariot Lite because of the nicer interior and higher quality fabrics and wheels for durability. If this child spends half the time our other son did in his, then it’s worth the extra money. The basic package includes front stroller wheels and a bike attachment but there are other accessories available such as the infant sling. We also have the jogging kit, which gives you a large fixed front wheel, so we can use it either as a stroller, a running stroller or a bike trailer. If you want to take it cross-country skiing there’s a kit available for that too, we love the skiing kit!

Storage and Transportation

The Chariot Cross is easy to fold and transport.  We’ve done multiple airplane trips with it and it collapses enough to gate check and fit in the back of an SUV.

The two rear wheels remove by pushing a button and you can store them inside, the handlebar rotates forward and down and the frame folds in half.  It will probably take you around 5 min. the first time to try.

Folded dimensions are 33.7 x 24.4 x 14.2 in for the single and 33.7 x 29.9 x 14.2 in for the double.

    maik

    1. I don’t think they sell just the pads. I would have to call them.

  2. Hi there, I am really interested in the CX. My baby is due in four weeks and I am really keen to get back running as soon as possible. How soon can I use the CX as a jogging buggy? And at what age can i use the cycling attachment?Do I need to purchase a special sling for the baby? Sorry one last question, what accessories would you recommend. I am considering the rain cover, coffee holder, jogging and cycling kit.

    Thanks so much,
    Jan

    1. I don’t think they recommend jogging or biking until 6 months but I would ask your doctor. I would also get the infant sling (for 18 lbs and less) and then the baby support. Or you can skip the infant sling and go straight to the baby support if you wait until 6 months to use the Chariot. I have stroller, bike and ski kits as I don’t jog or drink coffee;) The CX comes with a basic rain cover to keep baby dry. Good luck. We have some a velomom code on our website although we are backordered on CX at the moment. Check out http://velomom.com/shop/ Good luck and congrats!
